President of Il Borro and Grandson of the Famous Designer
Salvatore Ferragamo is one of Ferruccio Ferragamo’s six children, twin of James, born on the 7th of November 1971, in Florence. Prior to becoming AD of the family’s agro-leisure business, Salvatore worked in the international division of KPMG Peat Marwick in Florence. He worked nationally and internationally in KPMG’s audit, finance, and consulting departments.
From 1990, he interned at Salvatore Ferragamo SpA in the marketing and production departments where he planned marketing strategies for the company in Italy and France. He then decided to further his professional training with an MBA degree at New York University’s Stern School of Business, specializing in Finance and International Business.
In 1993, he joined his father Ferruccio Ferragamo in the long and challenging restoration of the ancient medieval village of Il Borro and in the development of the wine business.
His love for the Tuscan countryside and great wines drove him, step by step, to the creation of what Il Borro is today. In 2012 Il Borro became part of Relais and Chateaux and Salvatore was made Ambassador with the responsibility of representing the excellence and prestige of the organization.
Salvatore is the young father of 3 children who love to play football, polo or ride around the vineyards on the weekend. Salvatore has always had a strong passion for Polo since he first started playing at Millfield School at 14 years old. In 1989 during his summer holidays, he spent a month playing polo with Mr. Jack Macaire at his family farmhouse in Lion and at the Polo Club in Geneva.
Unfortunately, due to University commitments, he had to abandon polo for several years until 1998 when he spent 4 months in Argentina with Gonzalo and Luisita Tannoria. Since then he has played twice in Sao Paolo Brazil in the Polo Icon tournament. He then founded the Florence Polo Club and had their official Polo tournament in June 2005. He now plays polo with the Il Borro Polo Team with his wife Tini, and sister Olivia when business allows him.
During summer it is easy to catch them playing at sunset in a fun and colorful atmosphere.
