CELEBRATED HOSTS

  • Dick Vermeil

Super Bowl-Winning NFL Head Coach And Winemaker

Join the beloved Super Bowl-winning NFL head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, St. Louis Rams and Kansas City Chiefs in Napa Valley to discover his second passion in life – wine.

Richard A. “Dick” Vermeil was born in his great grandfather’s home in Calistoga, the northernmost town in the Napa Valley.  “My passion for wine began while helping my grandfather Albert Vermeil to make our family wine,” he says.

In 1999, Vermeil honored the family heritage by partnering with OnThEdge wines to craft the first “Jean Louis Vermeil” Cabernet Sauvignon.  It turned out to be a special year in more ways than one, with the magical 1999 season culminating in victory for the St. Louis Rams at Super Bowl XXXIV in January 2000. “The game is different,” he says of his wine business, “But the commitment to excellence is the same.”

Dick holds the distinction of being named Coach of the Year in high school, junior college, Division I college, and NFL Coach of the Year twice.  “While my football days are now fond memories, my best wine days lie ahead.”

Coach Vermeil invites guests to experience Napa’s harvest period - called 'the crush' - from an insiders perspective in October 2010.   Limited space available.
