On arrival in Maun Airport, you will be met by a Kwando/Moremi Air representative who will introduce you to your pilot and show you to your light aircraft for a departure out of Maun.
Your first stop is Kwara, deep in the clear permanent waters of the Okavango Delta. Time at Kwara will reveal why the Delta, with all its remarkable plant, bird and animal life, is so unique in the world.
Kwara camp is situated on the edge of the permanent waters of the world renowned Okavango Delta in Botswana, and shares a common boundary with Moremi Game Reserve. Due to the specific location of the camp, Kwara is able to offer power boating, mokoro (dug out canoe) trips, walks and game drives – all year round.
After a morning activity and a leisurely breakfast on the day of departure from Kwara – you will board another light aircraft for your transfer to Lebala.
Lebala is hidden in the southern portion of the extensive Kwando wilderness of 232, 000 hectares. The word Lebala means wide open spaces, the area is a labyrinth of waterways, reed beds, islands, floodplains, bush, scrub and trees. Excellent general game abounds the broad plains creating spectacular scenery, adorned with herds of plains game and the ever-attendant predators. The Kwando concession is home to more elephant than the entire country of South Africa. This is hardcore game-viewing country with game drives and walking safaris (seasonal) being offered. As we are in a private concession it is possible to drive off-road in search of that perfect photo opportunity, it is also possible to drive at night and spot some animals that are not active during the daylight hours.
The spacious and beautifully decorated tents will be a home away from home. Access to the room is via a sliding door on the private veranda. This leads into the sleeping area with a writing desk to one side and a small lounge area on the other. The bathroom has a free standing bathtub, double sinks and this leads out to double outdoor showers. All tents have views over the surrounding floodplain. The tasteful yet subtle décor makes this the perfect place to relax when not out enjoying the wildlife activities.
As part of your morning activity on your last day, your game drive will take you in a northerly direction – a welcome stop off for refreshments by a hippo filled lagoon is where you will transfer vehicles and continue your game drive in a northerly direction to Lagoon, your next destination.
Set on the banks of an oxbow of the Kwando River, is Lagoon – the setting is both remote and beautiful. For many months of the year you’ll see elephant drinking from the water next to the camp and witness the huge herds of buffalo that keep close proximity to the Kwando River.
Wild dogs, lion, cheetah, leopard and hyena are all never far away from their food sources. Over the years, many of our guests have been fortunate enough to see some of the incredible interactions between predator and prey - sometimes, even predator against predator. These are ancient struggles that very few people in the world are privileged to witness.
As we are in this vast private concession our game drives are allowed to operate both off road and at night. Many mammals are only active after dark. This gives an opportunity to see some of them using a spotlight operated by the tracker. In addition to the game drives we also offer walking safaris (seasonal) and evening boat cruises. You can watch the sunset from the comfort of the double deck boat as you head slowly along the winding Kwando river.
On the morning of departure from Lagoon, after a hearty brunch you will be transferred by boat to Lianshulu.
Lianshulu is located in Namibia’s Caprivi Strip, on the Kwando River. This beautiful lodge is located on an 800 hectare private concession within the borders of the Mudumu National Park. Here we offer early morning and afternoon game drives as well as guided walks in the lodge vicinity and selected areas of the park.
Boat cruises are also on offer morning and afternoon which is another great opportunity to view animals and birdlife. For those with a passion for fishing, or even beginners we offer fishing on a catch and release basis. The area is a lush wilderness of riverine forest, marsh and open woodland, providing a home for an abundance of wildlife.
After a magical 2 nights at Lianshulu you will be transferred by boat and road to your final destination, Susuwe Island Lodge.
The final two nights of your stay will be spent at the luxurious Susuwe Island Lodge, located in the Bwabwata National Park in the Caprivi strip. The lodge is built on an island along the perennial river banks and has traversing rights in excess of 300,000 hectares, through pristine, unspoiled natural wildlife areas. The Kwando River is a permanent water source that nourishes delicate ecosystems and provides for this glorious natural habitat.
The lodge is located on the banks of the Kwando River – a permanent water source which sustains varied game and birdlife. The birds and game in the area can be viewed from the water on a boat cruise or via game drive vehicle – either way you will be able to enjoy this beautiful and remote area and all it has to offer.
After your morning activity on your last day, you will transfer to Maun (via Kasane) by light aircraft for onward connection.
