OPTIONAL TOURS
Sumo and Traditional Chanko Dinner Outing
Sumo is Japan’s unofficial national sport, with a written history spanning more than a thousand years. It has continued to grow, still keeping the traditions of the old.
There are now six Grand Tournaments held every year, each lasting for fifteen days. ATG has requested seats during Tokyo's September Sumo Season, and tickets will be released in August 2009. A limited number will be available to ATG travelers on a first-come,first-served basis.
After the match, enjoy a Chanko Nabe dinner, ranked as "yokozuna," or grand champion, of Japanese foods. This do-all dish restores stamina and nutrition and is very easy to digest. Chanko Nabe is a stew-like assortment of vegetables, meat, and seafood cooked in one huge pot and is, in large quantities, the primary source of energy for sumo wrestlers.
