Trip Overview

Get up close to Great Whites, Blue & Mako sharks and more while enjoying one of the most exciting cities in Africa.  Straddling the Atlantic and Indian oceans, False Bay, Cape Town is the ideal base to explore the oceans' rich and diverse wildlife.
South Africa is well-known for its Big Five sightings of lion, elephant, rhino, leopard and buffalo.  A lesser-known fact is that it is also home to the Marine Big Five - Common Dolphin, Cape Fur Seal, African Penguin, Great White Shark and the Southern Right Whale – all of which can be seen in False Bay.
All operations are carried out without interfering in natural events or compromising the animals. Like any wild experience, and similar to other safaris, no animal sightings or behavior can be guaranteed.  While shark-focused, all marine wildlife is observed and appreciated to give a complete ocean experience.
This program is timed to take advantage of seasonal variations in wildlife viewing and animal behavior.  Late-May can be an excellent month for watching Great Whites, Mako and Blue sharks, but travelers can take advantage of a variety of species occuring in the waters surrounding Cape Town at different times throughout the year.  Please contact us for more information.

Points of Interest

Cape Town

‘The Mother City’ is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city offering diversity like no other.  A colorful melting pot of cultures has created something for every palate in one of the world’s most popular and picturesque settings. World class dining, shopping, art, theaters, beaches, scenery, wildlife and nightlife come standard. In a city which could be considered a destination itself, hidden gems are found around every corner.

Dive With Mako and Blue Sharks

Venture offshore to view and dive with Mako and Blue Sharks.  Observe pelagic open ocean birds off Cape Point with a very good chance to see 4 species of Albatross from very close distances. This is an incredible opportunity to get close to these shark and birds as well as take in the spectacular scenery off Cape Point from the water.

Dolphin and Brydes Whale Action

Follow one of the dolphin schools to witness them feed on bait fish and interact with the vessel while bow riding or breaching during hunting. These schools can get to be as large as 1,000 + so this is an amazing spectacle. If nature will have it on the day, we might see the dolphins joined by a Brydes whale on a bait ball feeding event. This certainly does not happen every day but is a distinct possibility in May.

Great White Shark Dive

View Great Whites from the vessel and cage. If we are lucky, observe as they hunt Cape Fur seals. You'll be in the best spot to view the action in the best light while not interfering with the outcome.  No prior experience or certification is required.  Entering the cage is optional.

Up Close with Cape Fur Seals

Get within a few meters of Seal Island’s 64,000 Cape Fur seals at Partridge Point.  Curious and very playful, the seals often approach divers in a display of underwater “hydrobatics.”  They make great photographic subjects – if you are quick enough!  Open water certification is required for this 30-50 minute dive.

Traveler Reviews

  1. Arrive in Cape Town and transfer to your hotel

Evening at leisure to explore the V&A Waterfront

When it comes to dining in Cape Town, the term 'spoiled for choice' often comes to mind.  Cape Town offers a tremendous array of dining experiences, from seven paired courses to fresh fish on the pier and great local markets.  Therefore, we've left your evenings free to explore.

  2. Morning Great White Trip
Depart at 7 a.m. from Simon’s Town, 45 minutes from Cape Town, to Seal Island in False Bay for a trip that focuses on Natural predation, breaching and shark cage diving.  The cage is fixed to the boat, and guests are allowed to snorkel in the cage. In view of this, a diving certification is not necessary. Air is available for divers who are certified.

Time at leisure for lunch on the pier.

Afternoon Snorkel with Seals and/or Scuba Dive with Seven Gill Cow Sharks

  3. Full Day Off Shore Trip with Lunch

Depart from Simon’s Town, and head out off Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope to search for the majestic Mako and Blue sharks.  The success rate on pelagic trips is around 85%, either Blues or Mako’s.  Observe a variety of sea birds while waiting for the sharks.  Also dive with huge Yellowfin Tuna and other species.

Off- shore trips will revert to half day morning great white trips  should the weather not allow a trip off-shore.

  4.  Morning Great White Trip
A final opportunity to observe these creatures from the vessel and in the water.

  5. Departures
